Soil Amendments

Since the Second World War, and the Agricultural Revolution that followed, soil amendments have typically referred to artificial fertilisers containing N P and K. More recently the Soil Amendment offering has grown to include a whole host of micro and macro nutrients all with the sole aim of feeding the plant to increase yields and profits. This method of feeding the crops with artificial fertilisers and other nutrients has worked, for a time, but this method is unsustainable. Global Warming and the degradation of our soils, which are directly linked, are quickly approaching a point of no return. Atmospheric CO2 levels are increasing year on year with Soil Carbon levels doing the exact opposite. Agricultural practices are not solely responsible for the effects of Global Warming but they have definitely contributed. Luckily Agriculture and more specifically our soils can go a long way to reversing the damage caused by artificial fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides and even the plough.

Agriton | Actiferm is a ready to use mix of Effective Micro-organisms (EM) containing a mix of bacteria, fungi, yeast, pho ropic bacteria and actinomycetes held in liquid suspension. Actiferm is used for populating an environment, in this case the soil, with beneficial microbes that work by way of competitive exclusion to out-number and suppress unwanted and harmful micro-organisms.

Agriton | Ægir is a crushed Sea Shell Grit that buffers acidic soils. Ægir slowly returns the soils pH to neutral without ever over buffering. Soil Microbes are very sensitive to changes in soil pH and therefore a slower correction will maintain the microbial population rather than kill it off. Due to the structure of the Sea Shell Grit, Ægir will continue buffering the soil for up to three years. Ægir also contains a lot of trace elements and minerals needed to help create a healthy and fertile soil.

Agriton | Edasil is a naturally occurring Montmorillonite clay mineral. Edasil distinguished itself from other clays due to its unique structure and exceptionally large surface area. The soil can be compared to a battery and the larger the battery the more energy it can hold. Applying Edasil increases the holding capacity of the soil meaning more nutrients can be held onto (bound). This prevents nutrients, minerals and even water from leaching out of the soil and instead makes them available to growing crops.

Agriton | Vulkamin Granulate is an naturally occurring Volcanic Rock made from Aluminium Silicate in anaerobic conditions. When applied Vulkamin Granulate slowly releases Silicic Acid which activates Phosphates within the soil. It can also help maintain favourable soil pH and due to its high mineral content will release vital minerals slowly over a long period of time. Due to the anaerobic conditions in which Vulkamin was formed its unique structure reduces the risk of erosions and provides an excellent shelter for nitrogen fixing bacteria within the soil.
